The routes

7 Ways to Qualify

Seven recognised routes to long-term residency. Select any pathway to see who it may suit, what is typically required and which documents are usually involved.

01

Qualifying Property Investment

Own an eligible home inside a designated tourism development

One route to long-term residency is the purchase of an eligible residential, commercial or tourism unit located inside a designated Integrated Tourism Complex. The property normally has to be finished, handed over and formally registered in the applicant's own name before it can be considered.

02

Business Ownership in Oman

Establish or hold shares in an eligible Omani company

Investors may also be considered through the founding or ownership of a company registered in the Sultanate. The assessment generally looks at how long the company has been trading and at the value of the applicant's own share of its assets rather than at turnover alone.

03

Government Development Bonds

Hold qualifying Omani development bonds in your own name

Subscribing to Omani Government Development Bonds is a further recognised route. The holding is normally expected to sit in the applicant's own name and to still have a meaningful period left before maturity at the time of application.

Muscat Stock Exchange Investments

Qualifying listed shares and securities

Investment in shares or other securities listed on the Muscat Stock Exchange can also form the basis of an application. In practice this means building and maintaining a qualifying portfolio held in your own name through a licensed local broker.

05

Qualifying Bank Deposit

A fixed-term deposit with a licensed Omani bank

A further option is placing a fixed-term deposit with a bank licensed in Oman. The reference framework describes a deposit of the stated minimum amount committed for five years, with renewal possible where the rules allow.

06

Creating Employment for Omani Nationals

Qualification through a business that employs Omani citizens

Business owners whose companies create meaningful employment for Omani citizens may also be considered. The reference framework points to a workforce of at least fifty Omani nationals, with a nomination or endorsement step that may apply before an application proceeds.

07

Foreign Investment Company Nomination

Nomination through a company under the foreign capital framework

Some applicants are put forward by a company operating under Oman's Foreign Capital Investment framework. Where the company's capital meets the stated level, qualifying partners or senior executives may be nominated, and companies above that level may in some cases nominate more than one eligible person.
